Quest Software bought Vintella, not Sun. Quest is a leading management software company which has built its business on cross-platform/heterogeneous management. Their acquisition of Vintella (which was founded as a Windows/Linux/Unix interop company) was a strategic move.

The committment to the product line is strong and they are seeing good growth in this part of the business.

Stop kidding,
you can compile ffmpeg/mplayer/xine with the WMV3 reference decoder released by Microsoft to fully decode WMV3 files, even on non-x86 platform.
So gave up and recompile, recompile, recompile.
Or, if you aren't good enough to recompile things just use Windows and don't bother.

I didn't have to install mplayer manually. You just need to add the extra repositories. :)

There are two scripts for Ubuntu which will install all the software a user would commonly expect (flash plugin, video codecs ... ). Automatix and Easy Ubuntu.

x86_86 Linux can use the 32 bit codecs and binaries. You'll have no problems with the codecs on an x86_64 Linux Desktop.

I watched the video here. Isn't that what Novell imanager does on Novell Ent Desktop & servers?

I believe it came with the Novell small business suite that was being sold for a couple hundred bucks. It's also freely downloadable.

Do properties on the watch link in firefox and copy the url into gmms after you build it.

It will download the mms:// asf packets and save them to a file on you disk.

You can open the file with mplayer while it's downloading and watch it. The mplayer essentials codec pack to view wmv may not be technically or morally "right" according to microsoft, but who cares. It's hosted offshore in EU where there aren't laws governing that.

At least Chris Travers post indicates some hope. Hopefully he will pick up on this and reveal all.
I have tried, with varying non-reproducable degrees of success, to connect a linux laptop to our corporate network. This uses AD for authentication and authorization. The best assistance I thouhgt I had found was at http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t=91510.html. But then I got to the step where I had to initialize kerberos. This required an admin account on out domain. This I don't have and am not likely to get anytime soon.
Anyway around this requirement?

Actually you can view wmv videos on amd64 so long as you have multilib installed. On gentoo 64bit you simply :
emerge mplayer-bin
This will install multilib, win32codecs and mplayer 32bit.
