Sam Ramji and I attended (and sponsored) Olliance Group & DLA Piper’s 2007 Open Source Think Tank earlier this month.
-

I do wonder about the extent to which Microsoft can ever become "Open" in this regard. However, I think that it will be by general evolution rather than revolution and that such is the right way to go. This has been happening slowly and I am confident that this is a trend that will continue in the right direction (even if another part of MS gets dragged kicking and screaming).

-

The difficulty though is one of business model. Microsoft is still working on this one. We in the community should be supportive of these experiments and look to help Microsoft move in the right direction.

Having met a good portion of the Port25 crew, I feel badly when you do such good work, yet the management of your company says and does things which turn the community against you. Case in point...I have not posted in over a month and I'm still the second highest poster which tells me traffic on this board is lacking. Why is that? Certainly not because of the quality of the work and effort you are putting out there, but rather the statements from the Executive Briefing Center that undercut the communities confidence that they had placed in you.

I wish you all the best...you are all first rate people who do great work. I'm just afraid you're playing for the wrong team when it comes to Open Source.
