Sam recently interviewed Daniel Lopez, Founder and CTO and Erica Brescia, CEO of Bitrock from their Spain headquarters. Daniel and Erica discuss their experiences and challenges developing open source applications and launching the BitNami project. BitRock makes open source software easier to use by providing a complete automated solution for Open Source Application Deployment.

Back in the Spring, Sam Ramji attended an Olliance event entitled, the Open Source Think Tank. It's a smaller gathering, and well attended by nearly 100 or so executives and influential developer-users of open source software. During one of the sessions, Sam and Justin Steinman took an impromptu moment to answer some tough questions regarding the nature of the Microsoft-Novell partnership. Justin Steinman is Novell's Director of Marketing for Linux and Open Platforms.

Many of the questions had been asked before and in fact have been posited more than once on Port 25. We thought these discussions would be interesting to the community at large - ...so Sam & Justin hopped on the phone recently to answer them in podcast format. Today Microsoft announced the addition of it's Virtual Hard Disk Format (VHD) to the list of specifications covered by the Open Specification Promise (OSP). As a result individuals and organizations can use, redistribute and modify Microsoft's virtualization format for free.

In light of this announcement we thought it would be a good time to catch up with a company that utilizes the VHD format: Xensource. In this podcast Sam and Simon Crosby, CTO of Xensource, discuss the Xensource and Microsoft partnership, Veridian, virtualization approaches, what's on the horizon and more.

Mindtouch: Open source approach to Collaboration and Wiki's

On day two of OSCON we snuck into the vendor fair during setup time and spent some time with Mindtouch, a Microsoft partner looking at new ways to leverage Wiki's to enhance data sharing and collaboration. Interestingly, at the same time that we met them, Mindtouch was making some announcements (CNET, NYT) regarding their company and their Open Source solution: OpenGarden, built on Mindtouch Dream.

Jamie Cannon makes his first appearance on camera to conduct the interview with Aaron Fulkerson (Co-founder, COO) and Steve Bjorg (Co-founder, President and CTO) from the floor of OSCON wherein they discuss Mindtouch, wiki's and the start-up's recent announcements.

Podcast: Accessing VS Team Foundation Server from Mac, UNIX or Linux through Eclipse

Sam interviews Martin from Teamprise, a company which has developed a pretty interesting suite of client applications that can access Visual Studio Team Foundation Server from Macintosh, UNIX or Linux clients using Eclipse. The Teamprise implementation allows development teams to use the source control features as well as work item tracking from within the Eclipse IDE.
