by Sam Ramji on September 26, 2007

While at OSCON Sam and I had a chance to spend some time with Simon Peyton Jones to talk about Haskell, functional programming and other topics...... more

    Barton George interviews Sam Ramji
by Sam Ramji on August 30, 2007

On the day before OSCON officially kicked off I was heading back from the Oregon Convention Center to downtown and ended up standing on the MAX next to someone who caught my attention for two reasons. First, he was the first person to tell me about the O'Reilly/Moglen conversation from earlier in the morning which I had missed. Second he had a cool flash based microphone that he used to record podcasts... more

    OSCON and Everything After
by Bryan Kirschner on August 29, 2007

When I describe my job as “helping Microsoft and open source to grow together,” I get a broad range of reactions from people outside and inside of Microsoft. These reactions have included sentiments along the lines of “that must be tough,” or “you must be a glutton for punishment” on occasion. After wrapping up a fairly momentous year culminating in OSCON (see this and this), I thought the time... more

Observations from OSCON and Linux World Expo
by hanrahat on August 23, 2007

I’ve been a regular attendee of the O’Reilly Open Source Conference in Portland and Linux World Expo – San Francisco for several years, but this is the first time I represented Microsoft at them. Between the two conferences, I met a lot of people with whom I’ve worked for many years. I appreciate the encouraging words I received from many of them and I respect the concerns others expressed regarding... more

    OSCON 2007 Trip Report
by anandeep on August 17, 2007

My overall impression was that OSCON was lower key than last year. There seemed to be fewer booths in the Exhibition floor and less palpable excitement in the venue. A lot of people were complaining about the quality of the tutorials and the talks. Or it may just be that this was my second time around attending OSCON and it didn’t have the same quality of excitement for me compared to the very first... more

Intelligent Design, the OSI and Microsoft
by jonrosenberg on July 26, 2007

This is my first blog post on Port 25, and timely as my team and I are attending OSCON with the folks from Bill Hilf’s team. I have some thoughts regarding the future of open source and how an organization matures along with the movement it helped to create. As Director of Source Programs at Microsoft I can attest to the value of keeping up with your own growth. We started on a journey, over three... more

    Open Source at Microsoft
by billhilf on July 26, 2007

Today, Microsoft took another step in its relationship with the open source software community. We did this by bringing up a new web property that clearly outlines Microsoft’s position on OSS by providing specific information about Microsoft, the OSS community and the interaction between the two. The new site also details information about getting started with OSS and Microsoft technologies. We'll... more

    OSCON 2007
by jcannon on July 05, 2007

We're nineteen days away from OSCON, and very excited about participating at this year's event. Microsoft is a Diamond sponsor of OSCON, and we have a number of interesting open source and Linux interoperability sessions and keynotes planned through the show. For those who can attend, we'll hope you join us for some or all of the below...... more

    OPEN/SHARED SOURCE AT Microsoft
by MichaelF on September 12, 2006

When we started port25 and the OSSL it was met with great skepticism. But there have been a lot of changes going on around us here at Microsoft. And one of those I wanted to bring to your attention...... more

    Learning from OSCON 2006
by jcannon on August 15, 2006

Hank Jenssen and myself attended the OSCON on the 27th and 28th of July. We did not attend the tutorials or the Executive briefing but were there two days of the two and a half days the sessions were in progress. We also attended the keynotes on both days (27th and 28th July). As a strategy, Hank and I discussed the sessions and their subject matter, splitting up to attend different sessions in... more

    Mindedness
by jcannon on August 14, 2006

A couple weeks ago I was put in the ‘hot seat’ at the O’Reilly Radar Executive Briefing at OSCON in Portland. Danese Cooper from Intel had a lineup of questions to ask and we had fun (really) discussing many of the issues about Microsoft and Open Source. In his blog, Tim mentioned one of my quotes from this session about dealing with ‘close mindedness’ around the issues of Microsoft and OSS, as it... more

    Thoughts from OSCON: Development Practices
by MichaelF on August 14, 2006

I recently attended OSCON 2006, and had a lot of fun being there. Microsoft’s presence in the Open Source World is still a novelty (to say the least), so I always got a reaction out of people at the conference when they saw my badge! ... more

    OSCON2006 Photo Update
by jcannon on July 28, 2006

We'll have more videos and blogs to come on OSCON2006; in fact, later today we'll be posting an interview with Mindtouch, as well as trip reports from Hank & Anandeep next week. For now - we wanted to share a few pics we snapped from the show floor for those that couldn't make it all the way to Oregon. As you can see from our first picture, the weather stayed beautiful for Day 3 at OSCON :) ... more

    OSCON2006 - O'Reilly Radar Updates
by admin on July 25, 2006

We just wrapped up the O'Reilly Executive Day here at OSCON after two days of what many would call record heat in the Pacific Northwest. With many of the Port 25 folks commuting from larger cities across the US, Portland is a welcome break. For those who haven't been before - the pic this morning from the Willamette River might give you an idea of how beautiful this place really is. ... more
